Shire Connections Lunch May - Revitalising Fishing Communities in Aberdeenshire

The European Fisheries Fund Axis 4 is an area-based programme to support projects which promote economic diversification and build capacity in fisheries dependent communities across the EU without increasing catching effort. The Aberdeenshire European Fisheries Fund (AEFF) supports projects in Aberdeenshire and will be managed by the Aberdeenshire Fisheries Local Action Group.

Ann Marie Macaskill will give an overview of the AEFF programme and the opportunities it provides for the sustainable development of Aberdeenshire’s fisheries communities. She will also give an outline of the opportunities the Aberdeenshire coast offers and show a video of Axis 4 projects in other EU states.

Jimmy Buchan has 36 years of experience fishing in the North Sea and is the face of the industry after featuring in the BBC Trawlermen series. With a family heritage in the industry, Jimmy knows that new challenges await future generations of fishermen. He will cover why the industry has to embrace change and the importance of investing in new entrants, technologies and markets.
