Local Content in Angola
[ 16-08-2012 ]
Speakers:
Peter-Jan van As, Independent Consultant in Angola
Nuno Antunes, Director, MIRANDA LAW (UK) Limited
Dave Buckham, Director of Operations – Africa, Sparrows
Local Content regulations in Angola aim to integrate the oil industry into the local economy for the benefit of Angolan workers and businesses. A number of laws have been passed that force international companies to hire and train Angolans as well as enter into partnerships with local businesses. More legal changes will soon come into force. In his presentation, Peter-Jan van As will look at the framework regulating Local Content, as well as the practical implications for companies on the ground.
Like all economies in the recent global downturn Angola was hard hit due to falling inward investment. In 2010 the Angolan government revised its monetary policy to introduce new legislation to encourage domestic development, economic growth and increase foreign reserves. Nuno Antunes will detail how best to invest in Angola and outline private investment law, promotion of Local Content, employment legislation and taxation.
Each company must make their own choice as to how it will adapt to these new regulations. Dave Buckham will tell us about Sparrow’s own experience, obstacles encountered and opportunities that lie ahead for Aberdeen-based companies.
Our speakers will help you make informed decisions about entering the Angolan market.
