SCC COMMENTS ON UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES
[ 21-01-2009 ]
Commenting on the news that Scottish unemployment figures have risen by 13,000 to 138,000, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
"As our Quarterly Business Survey this week has already shown, the prospect of rising unemployment is likely to be a feature of the Scottish economy this year. Skills development will be vital for business in 2009 and key support mechanisms must be found to help businesses achieve this.
"We must look towards developing an economy that is geared towards taking full advantage of the opportunities that will be made possible by the end of this recession, and the retention and development of skills, even in the face of rising unemployment, will be one of our most important challenges."
