SCC COMMENT ON MANUFACTURED EXPORTS FIGURES
[ 07-10-2009 ]
Commenting on today’s publication of official figures which show a decline in Scottish Manufactured Exports of 0.7% in the second quarter of 2009, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“These figures show that the decline in Scottish exports began to shallow considerably in the second quarter of this year. This would tally with our expectations that the Scottish economy has begun a recovery phase from the deep recession of late 2008 and early 2009 and is further evidence that the worst of the decline may be over.
“The manufacturing sector has clearly had a mixed year and the more detailed analysis of individual industries confirms Scottish Chambers of Commerce’s own survey data which showed that our food and drink sector in particular proved to be particularly strong in Quarter 2.
“The autumn and winter period will present further challenges and this month’s Chamber survey should help to deliver an up to date analysis of how the sector is progressing.”
