UK EXIT FROM RECESSION
[ 26-01-2010 ]
Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce commented “
“This is good news for the UK on two fronts - internally it will provide a boost to business confidence and optimism, externally a positive message to our global trading partners that the UK is on an economic recovery track, albeit with some major bumps, challenges and fragility ahead.
We do remain particularly sensitive in Scotland where historically we lag behind the UK’S business growth rate, coupled with our heavy reliance on public sector spend against a background of reduced budgets at Holyrood and Westminster.
It is therefore vital that governments and their respective delivery organisations channel their resources and economic policies ensuring that they are supporting business creation, investment, and growth. We also need to have ambitious realistic plans as to how we can fund major transport projects, skills development and the creation of a business environment which is attractive to global investment and opportunity.
There is an imperative to balance long-term need with short-term political expediency if we are to not only recover from the recession, but enable business to compete and win new orders”.
