SCC COMMENT ON BUSINESS RATES REPORT
[ 14-05-2010 ]
Commenting on today’s publication by the Scottish Government of a report on the impact of the Business Rates revaluation on Scottish firms, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“We welcome the publication of this report and we will be studying it in great detail. The evidence from our members suggests that there has been a very significant negative impact of the removal of transitional relief across many businesses in different parts of the country. This relief was withdrawn without any effective consultation and was announced just a few weeks before businesses began to receive their rates bills for this year.
“We will be discussing the implications of this for our members with the Scottish Government over the coming weeks. Our concern is that many Scottish businesses are now being placed at a competitive disadvantage compared to similar businesses south of the border, and this must not be allowed to happen.”
