MSPs REACH RIGHT DECISION ON RETAIL LEVY
[ 02-02-2011 ]
Commenting on the decision by the Scottish Parliament to reject plans for a supplementary rates levy on Scottish retailers, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“We are pleased that MSPs in the Scottish Parliament have rejected plans to introduce an additional rates levy on retailers operating in Scotland. Such a move would have made Scotland a more expensive and less attractive place to do business.
“It is clear that this proposal, if introduced, would have damaged Scotland’s competitiveness and business welcomes the common sense approach adopted by our politicians in rejecting it.
“This year will be another challenging one for the Scottish economy and every effort must be made to improve the business environment. We look forward to positive proposals from all of the political parties to help achieve this goal.”
