SCC WELCOMES FURTHER FALL IN SCOTTISH UNEMPLOYMENT
[ 16-03-2011 ]
Commenting on the news that Scottish unemployment has fallen again in the three months from November to January, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“Scotland has once again bucked the trend with falling unemployment against a background of rising joblessness at a UK Level. This is testament to the resilience of Scottish businesses in a challenging economic environment and is evidence that optimism may be returning to our outlook in the longer term.
“It is particularly noteworthy that employment continues to rise, even at a time when the number of people employed in Scotland’s public sector is reducing. Clearly private enterprise is so far proving up to the task of picking up the slack in the economy, and this is particularly important given the impact that spending cuts will have on our public sector from next month onwards.
“With the UK Budget statement coming up next week, we are looking for the Government to provide a clear road map to growth to accompany the necessary reductions in public sector spending which are well documented and understood.”
