SCOTTISH RETAIL SALES FIGURES DON’T TELL THE WHOLE STORY
[ 03-08-2011 ]
Commenting on the release of Scottish Government figures which show that Scottish retail sales grew by 0.2% in volume and by 0.8% in value in the second quarter of 2011, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“These figures show marginal growth in retail sales and, although this is encouraging, it is not yet firm evidence that the sector is in recovery. The retail sector in Scotland remains fairly pessimistic in the face of fierce competition, tight consumer budgets and rising cost pressures.
“The good news is that the Scottish retail sector appears to be slightly ahead of the UK sector as a whole in terms of sales growth and this is a position it will be important to maintain into the future.”
