UNEMPLOYMENT RISES BUT NEW JOBS ARE BEING CREATED
[ 17-08-2011 ]
Commenting on the news that Scottish unemployment has risen for the first time in nine months, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“Although the headline unemployment figures have risen slightly, this has to be seen against the context of a far sharper rise for the UK as a whole. The fact is that 24,000 new jobs have been created in Scotland and this is a trend that must continue if Scottish economic growth is to be maintained.
“With the Scottish Government preparing its budgetary plans for the next four years, it is clear that a focus on the private sector must underpin its economic policy. We have a golden opportunity to ensure that the Scottish recovery is a business-led recovery and government must focus on the ability of Scottish firms to grow and create the jobs Scotland needs now and in the future.”
