SCC WELCOME SIGNS OF CLARITY ON FUTURE TRANSPORT INVESTMENT
[ 29-11-2011 ]
Commenting on the news that the Scottish Government are planning a long term investment to dual the A9 over the next 14 years, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“Scottish Chambers of Commerce have long argued that there is a strong economic case for upgrading the A9, not just from Perth to Inverness but also to tackle key bottlenecks on the far north stretches such as the notorious Berriedale Braes in Caithness.
“However what is equally important is that Scotland has a long term, planned and costed vision of our future transport infrastructure. The news that such thinking is to be applied to the A9 route, albeit over a long timescale which we hope can be expedited, is a welcome indication that the Scottish Government are moving towards a credible strategic vision for transport investment in Scotland. We will be looking for more of the same when the Government’s revised Infrastructure Investment Plan in published next week. This would allow greater certainty for planning, investment and contract opportunities for Scottish businesses.
