BUSINESS IS GOOD FOR SCOTLAND – NEW FROM THE SCOTTISH CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE

[ 27-03-2012 ]

The Scottish Chambers of Commerce is today – Tuesday 27 March - launching ‘Business is Good for Scotland’ – a campaign theme to underpin the work of the Chamber movement in Scotland in 2012.

Scottish Chambers of Commerce Chief Executive, Liz Cameron, said:

“We are already full-time promoters of the good that business does in Scotland; now we will be explicit about that message.  The message that ‘Business is Good for Scotland’ will run as a theme through Scottish Chambers of Commerce events, communications and policy work throughout 2012, as we emphasise the contribution that businesses – our members – make.  The Scottish Chambers of Commerce Annual Dinner in September will focus on the theme, and our policy publications throughout the year will press the point with decision-makers and opinion formers.”

Scottish Chambers of Commerce Chairman, Mike Salter, said

“Every Chamber of Commerce in Scotland has a membership of businesses large and small that provide jobs, train young people, grow our economy and support our communities.  As the Scottish Chambers of Commerce Council meets for its first quarterly meeting of 2012, we are stating loud and clear that ‘Business is Good for Scotland’.

“We will be taking this message to everyone we engage with.  We begin today with Scottish Government Minister for Youth employment Angela Constance MSP, who will be attending our Council meeting.  She will have the opportunity to hear directly from leaders of Chambers of commerce across Scotland about the positive contribution that Chambers and our members make.  Angela Constance’s role in Government provides a great example of where business is crucial to addressing a problem the country is facing. We look forward to welcoming the Minister today.”

Scottish Chambers of Commerce Vice Chair and British Chambers of Commerce Vice President Nora Senior said:

“For 2012, Chambers of Commerce across the UK will be declaring that ‘Business is Good’ for their area as part of the British Chambers of Commerce campaign to show our government, our media and the public that ‘Business is Good for Britain’.

“Scottish Chambers of Commerce are taking this positive message about what we and our members do, and making it our own: we are proclaiming that ‘Business is Good for Scotland’.  This is a vital message at a time when the country needs to embrace the positive role that business plays in providing jobs and driving economic growth.”
