Edinburgh Chamber Event: The role of the UN Sustainable Development Goal’s in Building Back Better post COVID

Date Event: 20/08/2020 Published by: Scottish Chambers Address: https://www.edinburghchamber.co.uk/events/view/the-role-of-the-un-sustainable-development-goals-in-building-back-better-post-covid-2020-08-20

COVID-19 has turned the world upside down, exposing major weaknesses in our economy and the deep-seated inequalities in our society that means the most vulnerable people have been hit the hardest.

The call to not just go back to normal but instead “Build Back Better” will help support a more equal society and a resilient, sustainable future.

Incorporating the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) into the framework of your business as you look to Build Back Better will help you measure your impact as a business in relation to these sustainability goals, helping to ensure no one is left behind.

Ewan Aitken will lead this session and explore what lessons can be learned from the Coronavirus epidemic to make Edinburgh a more sustainable city, the role of the newly formed Edinburgh CANB initiative and how each individual can use the SDG’s to make Edinburgh a better place for all. Ewan is CEO of Cyrenians, a charity challenging the causes and consequences of homelessness. A former Convener of Education and Leader of Edinburgh City Council and CoSLA spokesperson on Education, Ewan has over 30 years’ experience in the Public and 3rd sectors.

This discussion will be followed by a Q&A, and will cover:

  • How to work collectively on the sustainable development goals with other organisations to maximise the impact of your own activity
  • How to embed a “business for good” culture in your organisation
  • How business for good culture builds a city and your bottom line, motivates staff and builds your brand

This video webinar will be delivered via Zoom. Once registered you’ll be sent joining instructions along with a delegate list for networking purposes
