Unfortunately, we are starting to see the impact of home working on peoples physical and mental health. One in two people (49%) says they are experiencing more physical pain since they started working from home. Around one and five have had more back pain, 19% neck pain and 18% tension in the shoulders or elbows and one and seven are experiencing more pain in their hand’s wrists and fingers. There is also the consideration of visual fatigue – strained or tired eyes.
Worryingly the sofa is now the U.K.’s home workers seat of choice with 72% saying they have worked from the sofa since the coronavirus outbreak led them to the necessity of home working. In addition, the bed, kitchen chair, stools and lying on the floor are also commonplace for people to work. The is a similar “make do” approach with desk options, including using your lap, kitchen or coffee table. Unfortunately, as a result, we are starting to see the impact of homeworking on people’s physical and mental health.
In addition, homeworking is also having an emotional impact on people. One and four homeworkers say they feel distant from their colleagues 22% struggle to switch off at the end of the day and the same proportion find it hard to concentrate due to the people and pets in their house well one and seven are feeling stressed at their workload. research has found that women are struggling more than men with the emotional impact.
