Events

DYW West Highland and Lochaber Chamber of Commerce are pleased to offer an interactive and online event where you can hear first-hand from some key inspirational young people about their careers within outdoor education and adventure tourism as well as the opportunity to discover your route into the world of adventure.

Delivered in partnership with West Highland College UHI and supported by DYW Inverness & Central Highland and DYW North Highland, this event is aimed at all young people as well as those who may have been made redundant, are currently unemployed, or simply looking for a career opportunity or change.

The event will also be of interest to teachers, parents and carers as well as education professionals who wish to learn and understand the opportunities available within this exciting industry.

Speakers overview

• Brodie Hood, University of the Highlands and Islands alumni and passionate outdoor adventurer and photographer
• Keir Coupland, an outdoor sports specialist and globe trotter with coaching skills from international mountain biking and snowboarding
• Alice Cant, Business Management graduate and applying her passion for the outdoors within the Nevis Range Mountain Resort Marketing Team
• Ann-Marie Campbell, having developed a range of skills across sectors we will hear how these are both transferrable and beneficial to the industry/ company in helping it to grow and become more successful forming part of the Nevis Range Mountain Resort team in Human Resources
• Chris Ball, founder of Enduro World Series, racing downhill World Cups, representing mountain biking to the UCI, and running the best-respected skills academy in the UK, Dirt School you’ll hear how passion and grit will help you forge a career
• Reece McAfee, founder of outdoor adventure sports company River to Sea Scotland, based across Lochaber, has learnt throughout his experience within education and learning that outdoor education is a key part of child development and support to Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) and school education, with many children passing through activity centres, helping to build confidence and resilience.
• Carl Haberl, Curriculum Area Lead, School of Adventure Studies at West Highland College (UHI) in Fort William will provide insight into the many opportunities available to learn at West Highland College and beyond through the University of the Highlands and Islands network.
