Scottish Chambers of Commerce Welcome Audit Scotland’s Recommendation to Improve Local Engagement with Businesses

[ 03-11-2011 ]

Scottish Chambers of Commerce have welcomed the recommendation of Audit Scotland’s report “The role of community planning partnerships in economic development”, published today, that community planning partnerships must fully engage with their local business communities in order to make a success of their economic development activity.
Scottish Chambers of Commerce Chief Executive Liz Cameron was a member of the project advisory group for this audit, representing Scotland’s business community.  She commented,
“Many Chambers of Commerce in Scotland are involved with their local community planning partnerships and welcome this.  With their multi-sector membership comprising all sizes of businesses and their locally based nature, Chambers of Commerce are the perfect vehicle for community planning partnerships to engage with the businesses in their area.
It is vitally important that this engagement with business takes place, as local businesses are the key drivers of jobs and growth across Scotland.  Their input is vital in ensuring that economic development is a success.
We would urge community planning partnerships across Scotland to share good practice in business engagement and to ensure that full account is taken of business’s views, in order to maximise the economic potential of each CPP area.”
