This is to advise that Network Rail has announced train services across
Scotland will run at a reduced level on Thursday 5 December because of
severe weather forecasts including exceptionally high wind speeds of up to

Network Rail, which is responsible for the infrastructure, has also advised
that a 50mph speed limit will apply to the trains which will run.

It said the reductions in services and speeds are necessary to follow
industry-wide safety guidelines as railway infrastructure could be affected
by severe winds blowing trees and debris onto tracks and damaging equipment
such as overhead electric power lines and signals.

As a result, I can confirm that ScotRail will run a reduced number of
trains on our most heavily used routes.

I can assure you that we are doing everything possible to mitigate the
impact on our customers.

This includes working closely with Network Rail to agree when we can safely
resume the normal timetable. This decision will be continually reviewed by
the industry as tomorrow's weather conditions are assessed.
