SCC Comment on Air Departure Tax

02-05-2019

Commenting on the First Minister’s comments on Air Departure Tax, Dr Liz Cameron OBE, Chief Executive and Director of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce said:

“We are disappointed that the Government is reconsidering its position to reduce and abolish APD.

“The proposed reduction in APD is an important economic lever that is particularly important to Scotland, which is at a disadvantage relative to other European countries.

“Research has shown that the economic benefit of reducing or abolishing APD far outweighs the loss of taxes to the government. Ensuring APD is in line with other markets that have reduced aviation taxes is crucial in terms of exports and tourism – two hugely important facets of the Scottish economy.

“We would welcome the chance to be consulted on Government proposals to ensure we can secure continued growth of Scotland’s industries as well as addressing the climate change challenge.”
