SCC Comment on immigration system proposals
Responding to the announcement that the Home Secretary Sajid Javid has asked the Migration Advisory Committee to review and advise on salary thresholds for the future immigration system, Liz Cameron OBE, Director and Chief Executive, Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“The £30,000 salary threshold proposed in the immigration white paper is poor use of a blunt instrument and we welcome the Home Secretary’s review.
“Our members have consistently raised concerns that a one-size-fits-all approach to extending existing immigration thresholds to EU nationals across the UK will not meet their requirements. Employers in Scotland need a migration system that suits regional wage levels and is responsive to Scotland’s lower population growth rate.
“Ultimately, the key test for whoever leads the next government is an immigration policy that avoids shocks and enables businesses to access talent and skills they need quickly and easily.”
