SCC Comment on ScotRail Timetable Changes
Commenting, Dr Liz Cameron CBE, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce said:
“Scotland’s railways provide businesses and their employees with vital connections between our seven cities and the hundreds of towns and villages in between.
“They also have an essential role to play in supporting Scotland’s performing arts sector and night-time economy, which are only just beginning to recover from the pandemic, by allowing customers to get home at the end of an evening.
“When the ScotRail franchise was taken on by the Scottish Government, businesses had hoped to see improvements to timetabling to better suit businesses and commuters, ensure that ticketing is accessible and affordable and deliver network wide improvements that drive up business use and support economic growth.
“Regrettably, just weeks into the new publicly owned franchises operation, the opposite is happening.
“The Scottish Government need to urgently outline the economic impact of these cuts to businesses, employees and customers. Whilst the timetabling decision has been published, we urge the Scottish Government to reverse cuts to services that serve as an essential lifeline to communities across Scotland.”
