SCC comments on increased funding for modern apprenticeships
The Scottish Government has announced a 10% increase in apprenticeship contribution rates from 2027-28, worth £8.8 million across all apprenticeship frameworks.
Responding, Charandeep Singh BEM, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“The £8.8 million uplift for apprenticeships is a welcome investment in the future of Scotland’s workforce that will give employers, apprentices and learning providers alike greater confidence for the future.
“With businesses across Scotland continuing to report skills shortages, and technology rapidly changing the jobs and skills employers need, apprenticeships have an increasingly important role to play in helping our workforce keep pace with a changing economy.
“This investment also helps reinforce the value of apprenticeships as a high-quality route into a rewarding career. Maintaining a focus on parity of esteem between academic and vocational pathways will help give people more choice while ensuring businesses can access the skills they need.”
