SCC respond to extension of lockdown in Aberdeen
Responding to the announcement made by the Scottish Government today (19th August) that the local lockdown in Aberdeen will be extended by another week, Dr Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce said:
“We understand the need to mitigate any potential rise in the transmission of COVID-19, but the extension of lockdown will still be very disappointing for many businesses in Aberdeen. Be in no doubt that the survival of many are now on a knife edge.
“The £1 million emergency funding announced is a welcome first line of support and it must be deployed as quickly as possible when the fund opens next week. However, this will not in itself be enough to stave off the worst and more must be done to support these businesses.
“As well as managing the risk to health, we need to see greater collaboration and co-operation between businesses and government in order to limit further economic harm as much as is possible.”
