“Today’s Programme for Government contains welcome commitments on business priorities, including infrastructure delivery and skills, but there is more to do.

“The new Major Projects Office and national skills plan are positive steps, while the proposals on regional devolution could significantly reshape economic decision-making. Business must have a strong voice as those plans develop.

“Ultimately, these commitments will be judged on whether they deliver faster decisions, greater investor certainty and a more competitive business environment.

“It is disappointing that industry-backed solutions like Fresh Start are absent, while greater urgency is still needed on grid connections and consenting to unlock investment.

“Attention now turns to the Scottish Budget and the practical action needed to reduce costs, drive investment and strengthen Scotland’s competitiveness.”
